EVP from Perryville Battlefield

Background:

Perryville Battlefield Confederate CemeterySuch obstinate fighting I never had seen before or since," wrote Confederate Private Sam Watkins on the Battle of Perryville. "The guns were discharged so rapidly that it seemed the earth itself was in a volcanic uproar. The iron storm passed through our ranks, mangling and tearing men to pieces… Our men were dead and dying right in the very midst of this grand havoc of battle."

On October 8, 1862, Watkins and 18,000 Confederates clashed with 20,000 Union troops on the hills outside of Perryville. Nearly 7,500 soldiers were killed and wounded in Kentucky’s largest Civil War battle. The Confederate failure to attain a decisive victory kept Kentucky in Union hands for the remainder of the war, stands as the High Water Mark of the Confederacy in the Western Theater, and marked the last major incursion of Confederate forces into the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

A Federal cavalryman later described the horrific post-battle scene. "We found that the Rebels had left during the night," he wrote. "We marched over the battlefield. It was a horrible sight. For four miles the fields are strewn with the dead of both parties, some are torn to pieces and some in the dying agonies of death. The ambulances are unable to take all the wounded . . . A large pile of legs and arms are lying around that the Rebel doctors cut off."

For the short time the battle raged, only five hours, it earned it's rank as one of the bloodiest of the Civil War. For more information on the Battle of Perryville, follow either of these links: Battle of Perryville Website or Perryville Reenactment.

#1 -
Whites Road

We actually captured this EVP inside the van while we were travelling along Whites Road. Nicki was talking about hearing a creeking noise behind her, and an odd sounding male voices says "That's better". (There were no men with us on this trip)

#2 -
Confederate Cemetery

This EVP was captured within the first five minutes of our setup in the Confederate cemetery. Jill had just used the dowsing rods to locate an area of spirit energy, and you will hear her ask if there is someone who would talk to us. You hear a female voice say "Miss you Daddy".

#3 -
Confederate Cemetery

Still in the Confederate cemetery. Jill was doing a question and answer session and had asked if the spirit would manifest something that we could photograph. After we shot a few photos Jill asks "We you able to do it?" and you hear a female voice say "No".

#4 -
Confederate Cemetery

This EVP was captured during a time when we just had the recorder running during a rest period. You hear a male voice say "James Francis". I did a search for the name and there was a James Francis Cantwell that was a Captain in Company G out of the 80th Indiana which was present at the Battle of Perryville. He wasn't killed in Perryville, though his hand was injured... there is also documentation that he lost his sword, sash, canteen and several other items there. (There were no men with us on this trip)
